I Was A Bad Girl...

Welcome!

So....I have been very disciplined, but everyone falls off the wagon right???

I was a bad girl....and ordered some beads!!!

I say I was bad because if you read the post "A Peak Into My Stash" you know as well as I do that I do not need any more beads....ah but there's the kicker...need vs. want...

Since I have not been feeling well these past couple of years and therefore not able to work as much, I have been very disciplined on using what I have rather than buying new beads to go with what I already have.  Why would I think I need more you ask?  Can anyone ever have too many beads I answer...but seriously, my ideas come as they want, and when I look at some beads to create sometimes it pops into my head "now if I only had some of (insert beads I don't have here) they would go together perfectly and that would be an amazing necklace!"

There is always temptation...bead magazines I subscribe to and especially emails...telling me there is a sale...such is the case this time.

40% OFF!!! Eeeeeekkkkk!

Who can resist that??? Well I tried to resist because the sale was for Vintage glass seed beads....I ONLY use Czech Preciosa Ornela glass seed beads....because I am a little spoiled and I want to use the best products I can afford to use in my designs.

Then I thought that there would be an appeal to them since they are Vintage and over 100 years old, they don't make some of these colors anymore, they are unique...so I gave in!
My Shipwreck Beads Order Arrived

I was SO EXCITED to open my first bead order in such a long time I could barely sit still!!!

My Whole Shipwreck Beads Order

Even though the Czech seed beads weren't on sale, there were a few I needed to replenish that I have used and a few that have been back-ordered...so here they are;

Here are the Vintage French seed beads I ordered, the first pic is of the two purple colors I ordered more of and the second is a pic of the variety of pinks and purples

These are the greens I ordered, they happened to be in another category, Vintage Venetian Glass Seed Beads

 Unfortunately my excitement was short-lived...

As I was unpacking and looking at all the beautiful colors I immediately noticed something was off....they are all different sizes!

There are many sizes of seed beads, I mainly use the size 10/0, which are slightly bigger, not as common and available in fewer colors than the size 11/0.  I find them easier to work with, but do have some 11/0 as well, they just take more time and patience.

So of course when I ordered my beads I ordered all size 10/0 so that I could mix the new Vintage beads with my already existing arsenal of seed beads.

I have been a bead crochet machine lately and that was the purpose of my order, to add colors that I needed to create the necklaces that were already in my mind....

Sadly this would not be the case, or not what I had planned for I should say.  For beaded crochet all the beads sit on top and next to each other very closely, and are all the same size.  If I were to mix sizes (which I have done by accident) you create a bit of a bumpy texture to the rope if you were to mix 10's and 11's let's say.  BUT that was not the vision I had so I was disappointed, to show you the difference in size I took a picture,

The French seed beads are larger but some of the colors are  still close enough that they can be mixed with my Czech beads to create a textured rope, but the Venetian seed beads are ginormous!!! I wouldn't be able to do a mixed color beaded crochet rope with them without having a gap between the beads, frankly I don't like the way that looks so I wouldn't make it.

So....after thinking about it for a few days I decided to order some more colors of the Venetian style beads to compliment the greens I bought so that I can make some beaded crochet ropes with them...they should arrive on Wednesday....I can't lie....I'm excited...and...it feels good to be bad once in a while!
