Wire Wrapped Gemstones Dreams

Welcome!

The past few weeks I have been feeling a bit "under the weather" and wasn't able to make any jewelry.   I have a disease called Ulcerative Colitis, for about 20 years now, while I have been healthy for 8 years without any symptoms, I recently had a "flare" we call it, and have been trying to get it under control again.

After a round of steroids (that usually fixes everything, just not this time) I am back on medication for it but I hate medication since I have been on it most of my life.  I have been trying to do things naturally the past 8 years.  I take a liquid herbal supplement called Alveo every day, but decided to kick it up a notch and bought a juicer! It has been fun making juices, not that they taste great, but I will drink them if they will help me to heal and get better!

Since I haven't been able to create any jewelry I have been doing a lot of thinking about it...a lot!  Yes, even dreaming about making jewelry!

Thinking about what I would be making if I felt a bit better...and of course I came to a few conclusions...

After compiling quite an arsenal of beaded crochet bangle bracelets, I think I will take a break from those for a bit.  Not to say that I don't always have at least one rope necklace on the go (in the process) but I do get a bit obsessive so I think taking a break for now is a good idea.

Wire....I have been thinking about wire...and gemstones... I think I would like to make a few necklaces of simple wire wrapped connected gemstones.  I really like this technique and have used it in the past with pearls.  The result was just beautiful, very time consuming but absolutely gorgeous.

Wire Wrapped Freshwater Pearl Necklaces

As you can see by the date on the photos, it's been quite a while since I have made this type of necklace and I only have a photo of these two pieces.  I really loved the result and always planned on making more...but somehow time got away from me...other ideas took over... and I never got around to picking that technique on a day when I was creating I suppose.

I think I still want to make some necklaces using this technique with pearls, but I do have some heavier gauge wire now so I will experiment with gemstones next.

I have SO many gemstones, in so many different shapes and sizes.  I think I may do a variety of lengths, some shorter and chunkier feeling, some longer and chunky but also longer and more delicate as well.  Those are my beginning ideas however, I'm looking forward to starting with that and seeing where I end up!

Hoping to be back to creating in a few weeks.  As soon as I get started I will try to remember to take some photos while in the process so you can see a bit of the "behind the scenes" work, if I keep my original ideas, or branch off in another direction...and of course the final result!

Do you have a favorite gemstone?  Would you like to see how it would look using this wire wrapping technique?  Gold, silver or copper wire?  I would love to hear from you!

So why don't we do that?

Leave a comment and let me know:
a)  your favorite gemstone (and second favorite just in case for some strange reason I don't have your first choice)

b) what length in inches you would prefer (18"-36")

c) what color of wire you would like (gold-plated, silver-plated or copper)

I will choose one of your requests, make it, blog about it, get in touch with you for a mailing address...then send it to you!

A little something special for my lovely readers(Again if you are not able to leave a comment below please leave it in the comment section of the link on Facebook)

I look forward to hearing your custom necklace ideas!

    1. Thank you Molly! Yes Pink Sapphire is a precious gemstone. I work with a few precious gemstones, but mainly semi-precious gemstones. A few examples are Agates, Amethyst, Amber, Carnelian, Garnet, Jasper, Lapis Lazuli, Rhodonite, Quartz, Turquoise and many more!
